About Tori Amos
Tori Amos, born Myra Ellen Amos on August 22, 1963, is an American singer-songwriter and pianist known for her unique musical style. A classically trained musician with a mezzo-soprano voice, she began composing piano pieces early in life. At just five years old, she became the youngest student accepted to the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. However, she left at eleven when her scholarship was withdrawn, reportedly for defying traditional musical expectations.
In the 1980s, Amos was the lead singer of a pop-rock band called Y Kant Tori Read, but it was short-lived. She rose to fame in the 1990s as a solo artist, known for her emotionally powerful songs that often explore topics like religion, feminism, sexuality, and politics. Some of her most popular tracks include "Crucify," "Silent All These Years," "Cornflake Girl," "God," and "A Sorta Fairytale," the latter being her biggest U.S. hit.
