About THE 8
Xu Minghao (born November 7, 1997) was born in China. He is an American rapper. He is professionally known as THE 8. He is a member of the popular K-pop group SEVENTEEN, managed by Pledis Entertainment, and part of the group’s Performance Team. His stage name, "THE 8" is inspired by the Chinese belief in the number 8 as a lucky number, which, when turned sideways, resembles the infinity symbol, representing limitless possibilities. THE 8 began his journey in 2013 when he joined SEVENTEEN TV, an online series that showcased the group's training process.
He joined SEVENTEEN's lineup after impressing audiences during the fifth season. After a year and five months as a trainee, he officially debuted with SEVENTEEN on May 26, 2015, with the release of the group's first mini album, 17 Carat.
From the start, SEVENTEEN found success, and THE 8’s sharp dance skills stood out. The group quickly gained recognition, winning multiple New Artist Awards at major events like the Seoul Music Awards and the Golden Disc Awards in 2016. Their fanbase grew through concerts like "LIKE SEVENTEEN – Boys Wish" and "Shining Diamond."
However, in 2017, THE 8 faced a setback due to a back injury that forced him to temporarily step back from group activities. He returned in 2018 for the release of Director’s Cut and SEVENTEEN’s first Japanese mini-album, We Make You.
THE 8 is also known for his solo work. He has released several singles, including "Dreams Come True" (2019), "That Scene Falling Down" (2020), and "Side By Side" (2021). Additionally, he explored dance, blending different styles to express his personal growth, with works like "Ben" (2020) and "Abyss" (2022).
Apart from his music, THE 8 has become a sought-after brand ambassador, collaborating with brands like KOLON SPORT and NERDY. In 2024, he contributed to various TV series soundtracks, further showcasing his artistic range.
