Mateusz Jakub Szpakowski (born January 6, 1994) was born in Morag, Poland. He is a Polish rapper and songwriter. He is professionally known as Szpaku. Initially associated with the BOR Records label, Szpaku ventured into establishing his own label called GUGU in late 2019. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with various notable artists, including Paluch, Young Igi, Białas, Guzior, Włodi, Shellerni, Słoń, Bezczel, Kaz Bałagane, Kizo, Chivas, Jan-Rapowanie, Bedoes, Taco Hemingway, Tymek, Kalush Orchestra, and Sokół. He has also participated in the Chillwagon project.
Szpaku's journey into rap music began when he discovered the album "Sick Melodies" by Elephant. In 2015, he released his debut song titled "ZACHCIANKI." Subsequently, he joined the Alcomindz label, and in the following years, he released the mixtape "Young Simba" in 2016/2017. In August of the same year, he joined BOR Records.
On March 5, 2018, Szpaku released his EP titled "BORuto" in collaboration with producer 2K. Limited to 3000 copies, the EP quickly sold out within an hour on the official BOR Records store. The release of his first LP album, "Atypical," on October 19, 2018, marked a significant milestone in his career. The album sold 16,000 copies in its first week and achieved gold record status. It climbed to the #2 position on the OLIS chart. Within a couple of months, it reached platinum certification, and six months later, it achieved double platinum. By February 2021, "Atypical" obtained triple platinum certification, followed by quadruple platinum in November 2022.
In February 2020, Szpaku released the album "Children ghosts," which garnered great success, selling 15,000 copies within two weeks and achieving a gold record. The album was later certified platinum in December of the same year. During this time, he participated in the #hot16challenge2 campaign to support medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although his involvement received criticism due to the crew not following pandemic guidelines, his verse became immensely popular and reached diamond status as a single. Mateusz donated his verse to a charity auction supporting Filip from his hometown.
In June 2020, Szpaku joined the Chillwagon project and announced his upcoming album, "The Pink Panther," which was released in January 2021 and received double platinum certification. Following a hiatus, Szpaku released the first single promoting his new album, "Dom dla zmyślione Friends of Mateusz (DDZPPM)," titled "Mateusz" on February 28, 2022. The album premiered on April 7, selling over 30,000 copies within a month and obtaining platinum certification.
On December 24, 2022, the duo Jan-Szpakowanie, formed by Szpaku and rapper Jan-rapowanie, announced their dissolution, marking the end of their collaboration.
