Alexander George Edward Crossan (born April 5, 1996) was born in Castel, Guernsey. He is an English music producer and songwriter. He is professionally known as Mura Masa. He gained significant recognition with his 2016 track "Lovesick" featuring ASAP Rocky, which topped the Spotify Viral charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2022, he produced the hit single "Boy's a Liar" by PinkPantheress, which climbed to number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Mura Masa's self-titled debut album, released in 2017, earned nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. He also won the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remix of Haim's "Walking Away" at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
In 2015, Crossan established his own label, Anchor Point Records, in collaboration with Polydor Records for UK distribution and Interscope Records for North America. The label not only releases Mura Masa's music but also promotes artists like Dublin-based Bonzai and the post-music duo Jadu Heart.
Crossan's debut EP, Someday Somewhere, was released in April 2015 under Anchor Point Records. The lead track, "Firefly," was featured on BBC Radio 1's In New Music We Trust playlist. The EP included contributions from UK vocalists Nao, Denai Moore, and Jay Prince. The original version of "Lovesick" from the EP topped the Spotify Viral charts in both the UK and US. On April 27, 2015, Mura Masa showcased a 60-minute mix on BBC Radio 1's Diplo and Friends. Later that year, he was long-listed for the BBC Sound of 2016 and eventually placed fifth.
On March 15, 2016, he released the single "What If I Go?" as a teaser for his forthcoming album. Subsequently, on September 30, 2016, he dropped a collaborative version of "Lovesick" featuring ASAP Rocky. The collaboration was finalized when Rocky was in London, leading to the song's release through Anchor Point, Downtown Records, and Interscope Records. An official music video for "Lovesick" premiered on Mura Masa's YouTube channel on November 3, 2016.
