Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, better known as Mr Eazi, is a Nigerian-Bajan singer, songwriter, and music executive born on July 19, 1991. He is famous for creating Banku music, a unique style that blends Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord patterns. This distinctive sound has made him a standout figure in Afropop.
In 2008, Mr Eazi moved to Kumasi, Ghana, where he attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). While studying, he organized college parties and booked artists, showing an early passion for music and entertainment. His music journey began when he contributed a verse to the song "My Life," which became a local hit at KNUST.
Mr Eazi released his first mixtape, About to Blow, in 2013. However, it was the 2015 single "Skin Tight," featuring Ghanaian singer Efya, that brought him international fame. His second mixtape, Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos, released in 2017, cemented his position in the global music scene. The project showcased his ability to connect cultures through music and received widespread praise.
Over the years, Mr Eazi has collaborated with top African and international artists, earning recognition for his creativity and innovation. He has also faced criticism for blending Nigerian and Ghanaian sounds, sparking debates about cultural ownership in music.
Beyond his music, Mr Eazi is a savvy entrepreneur. He launched emPawa Africa, a platform to support rising African artists, helping them reach wider audiences. This initiative highlights his dedication to uplifting African music and talent.
From his early days in Kumasi to becoming a global Afropop ambassador, Mr Eazi’s journey reflects his passion for music and his influence on the African music industry.
