"Monuments" is a British progressive metal band hailing from the United Kingdom, originated in 2007 through the collaboration of former Fellsilent guitarist John Browne and ex-Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza guitarist Joshua Travis. After navigating several lineup changes, the band secured a deal with Century Media Records in 2012 and introduced vocalist Matt Rose to their ranks. The debut album, "Gnosis," emerged on August 28, 2012, showcasing their intricate musical prowess.
The band embarked on significant tours, including the Euroblast European Tour alongside Jeff Loomis, Vildhjarta, and Stealing Axion. Subsequent European tours with Born of Osiris and After the Burial followed in 2013. Despite these successes, the band bid farewell to vocalist Matt Rose in March 2013, welcoming Chris Barretto of Periphery, Ever Forthright, and The HAARP Machine as his replacement in July 2013.
In 2014, Monuments announced the completion of their second album, "The Amanuensis," released in June of the same year. The band's trajectory continued with performances at prominent events such as Download Festival and supporting Australian band Karnivool on their UK and European tour in 2015. Drummer Mike Malyan's departure in August 2015 led to Anup Sastry stepping in temporarily, with Malyan's return in late 2018.
Monuments faced lineup changes again in 2019, with vocalist Chris Barretto departing for personal reasons. YouTuber Andy Cizek assumed the role initially as a fill-in, later becoming the official vocalist in October 2019. In a surprising turn, former drummer Mike Malyan rejoined the band less than two months later.
Guitarist Olly Steele's departure in July 2021 set the stage for Monuments' fourth album, "In Stasis," announced for release on April 15, 2022. The album features co-production by Mick Gordon and guest appearances by Spencer Sotelo of Periphery and ex-vocalist Neema Askari. The band's commitment to evolution continued in January 2023 with the departure of bassist Adam Swan, replaced by Dutch bassist Werner Erkelens of Aviations, as Swan pursued environmental efforts in Soil Ecology Agriculture.
