    About Metallica

Metallica is a legendary American heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. They later made San Francisco their base. Known for fast tempos, powerful instrumentals, and aggressive style, Metallica is one of the "big four" thrash metal bands, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. The band’s lineup includes Hetfield, Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo. Former members include Dave Mustaine, who went on to form Megadeth, and bassists Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted, and Ron McGovney.

The band’s breakthrough came with Master of Puppets (1986), often called one of the heaviest and best metal albums. They reached mainstream success with Metallica (1991), also known as The Black Album, which sold over 16 million copies in the U.S., making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan era. Over the years, Metallica explored new sounds but returned to thrash metal with Death Magnetic (2008), earning praise reminiscent of their earlier days. Their latest album, 72 Seasons, was released in 2023.
