Kishore Kumar, born Abhas Kumar Ganguly on August 4, 1929, was a legendary Indian playback singer and actor. Known for his versatility, he became one of the greatest singers in Indian music history. Kishore was famous for his unique yodeling and ability to adapt his voice to various styles and emotions. His talent extended across multiple genres, making him a beloved figure in the Indian film industry.
He sang in numerous Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and more. His non-film Bengali albums are considered timeless classics. Although he created many rare masterpieces, some of his works were lost over time.
Kishore Kumar's incredible talent earned him 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer, the most ever in this category. In recognition of his contributions, the Madhya Pradesh government honored him with the Lata Mangeshkar Award in 1985–86. After his death on October 13, 1987, the same government established the "Kishore Kumar Award" in 1997 to celebrate contributions to Hindi cinema.
