About Dream Theater
Dream Theater is a renowned American progressive metal band, formed in 1985 in Boston, Massachusetts. The band originally started under the name Majesty, founded by guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, and drummer Mike Portnoy while they were attending Berklee College of Music. The three dropped out of school to focus on the band, with Petrucci and Myung staying as the only constant members. After various lineup changes, the band solidified with the addition of James LaBrie as the lead vocalist in 1991, and Jordan Rudess as the keyboardist in 1999.
Dream Theater's music is known for its complex compositions, technical skill, and blend of metal, progressive rock, and classical influences. The band's second album, Images and Words (1992), is their most commercially successful, reaching No. 61 on the Billboard 200. The album is especially known for the hit "Pull Me Under," which remains a signature song. Other notable albums include Awake (1994), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002), and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999), which is frequently listed among the greatest progressive metal albums.
