Denzel Rae Don Curry (born February 16, 1995) was born in Carol City, Miami Gardens, Florida, United States. He is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is professionally known as Denzel Curry. He began his music career in the sixth grade, writing and performing his own rap lyrics. Curry's passion for music continued to grow, and by 2011, he was working on his first mixtape.
Influenced by underground Florida rapper SpaceGhostPurrp, Curry's mixtape caught the attention of Purrp, who featured it on his social media channels. The exposure led to Curry joining Purrp's hip-hop collective, Raider Klan. During his time with the group, Curry released his debut studio album, Nostalgic 64, in September 2013, while still in high school.
After leaving Raider Klan in 2013, Curry continued to make a name for himself in the music industry. He released his first extended play, 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms, in 2015, followed by 13 in 2017, and Unlocked, a collaboration with producer Kenny Beats, in 2020. Curry has also released four studio albums: Imperial in 2016, Ta13oo in 2018, Zuu in 2019, and Melt My Eyez See Your Future in 2022.
Ta13oo, Zuu, and Melt My Eyez have all received critical acclaim, with Ta13oo debuting at number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart and Zuu at number 32. Melt My Eyez debuted at number 51 on the chart but returned to the top 20 at number 17 after the release of an extended edition. Curry's unique blend of rap, hip-hop, and experimental sounds has earned him a dedicated fanbase and a reputation as a rising star in the music industry.
Aside from his music career, Curry has also been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including working with the National Association of Mental Illness to raise awareness for mental health issues. He has also been an advocate for social justice and has used his platform to speak out against police brutality and systemic racism.
