Daniel Nwosu Jr. (born March 22, 1994) was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is a Nigerian-Canadian rapper and songwriter. He is professionally known as Dax, and he is of Nigerian descent. He started as a poet, but in 2016, a basketball teammate’s positive feedback pushed him to explore music. He began sharing his songs on SoundCloud, and in 2017, he released his mixtape 2pac Reincarnation Vol 2: As Told By Dax. Dax gained attention with the song "Cash Me Outside," featuring Danielle Bregoli.
In 2018, Dax dropped his first EP, It’s Different Now, collaborating with artists like O.T. Genasis and Futuristic. He gained more popularity in 2019 after working with Hopsin on the song "You Should’ve Known" and going on tour with Tech N9ne. His first headlining tour, "It’s Different Now Tour," happened in October 2019, across the U.S. and Canada.
Dax's 2020 EP, I'll Say It for You, received positive reviews, with the single "Dear God" being particularly successful. He also released songs like "Faster" with Tech N9ne and "I Don't Want Another Sorry" with Trippie Redd. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he dropped "Coronavirus (State of Emergency)" in April 2020.
In 2021, Dax followed up "Dear God" with "Child of God" and released his debut album Pain Paints Paintings in October. The album featured the single "Propaganda," which reached high positions on the Billboard charts.
Dax’s 2022 single "Dear Alcohol," which addresses alcoholism, became a hit, reaching Platinum status and charting on both pop and country charts. He even released a remix with country singer Elle King. In 2023, he was nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Later that year, Dax's country remix of "To Be a Man" featuring Darius Rucker topped the Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart.
By 2024, Dax was opening for Joyner Lucas on his tour and performing at state fairs, continuing his rise in both hip-hop and country music.
