Donald McKinley Glover Jr. (born September 25, 1983) was born in Edwards Air Force Base, California, United States. He is an American actor, comedian, rapper, singer, writer, director, and producer. He is professionally also known as Childish Gambino. While studying at New York University, Glover worked with a comedy group called Derrick Comedy. At 23, Tina Fey hired him to write for the NBC show 30 Rock. Glover became famous for his role as Troy Barnes on the NBC sitcom Community, which he starred in from 2009 to 2014. From 2016 to 2022, he created and starred in the FX series Atlanta, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for his work.
Glover released several independent projects before signing with Glassnote Records in 2011. That year, he released his first studio album, Camp, which was well-received. His second album, Because the Internet, came out in 2013 and featured the single "3005," his first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100. In 2016, his song "Redbone" reached number 12 on the Billboard chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance. This song was part of his third album, "Awaken, My Love!" which was also very successful.
