BGYO (pronounced as bee-gi-why-oh) is a popular Filipino boy band formed in 2018 by ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy. The group is made up of five members: Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate. They officially debuted on January 29, 2021, with their hit single, "The Light." The name BGYO stands for "Becoming the change, Going further, You and I, Originally Filipino," showing their commitment to representing their country.
Their second single, "He's Into Her," became a part of the soundtrack for the Philippine series of the same name. This song helped them win their first award, "Best Theme Song," at the 2021 Asian Academy Creative Awards. Their debut album, The Light, was a big success, topping iTunes Philippines for 12 days, the longest any Filipino act has ever stayed at the top.
In 2023, BGYO gained international recognition when they were included in Grammy’s "The Many Sounds of Asian Pop." They also secured endorsement deals with big brands like Xiaomi, H&M, Mentos, TNT, Chowking, and Sprite. BGYO became the first Filipino artist to join H&M’s "Music x ME" campaign. They have worked with Kumu, a live-streaming platform, and Viber, offering fans unique ways to connect with them.
In 2022, BGYO collaborated with the Filipino streetwear brand "Don’t Blame The Kids" and took part in promoting their first-ever partnership with H&M. The group has made a strong mark on the entertainment and commercial industries.
However, despite their success, BGYO faced online harassment. In June 2024, they filed cyber libel and unjust vexation complaints against individuals who spread false information about them. This action shows their determination to protect themselves from harmful rumors and attacks.
